About

I am currently a Doctoral Student in Pedagogy at Linköping University, writing a dissertation that interrogates interculturality and intercultural pedagogy from a postcolonial horizon. The aim of my dissertation can be described as twofold: the purpose is, firstly, to map and problematize how the dominant discourse of interculturality defines and configures the cultural relations it seek to mobilize. Secondly, to discuss the types of consequences and implications that stem from such endeavor. In four essays, I explore how the dominant discourse of interculturality is produced in various contexts – studied at the level of EU policies, sphere of higher education (Europe and Latin America) and body of literature – all of which in one way or another deals with issues of presupposed cultural diversity and the ability to interact in between the numerous groupings. The complexity of the issue here raised is valid for any conceptual totality and has thus guided the dissertation as well as my previous publications on cultural diversity and colonial legacies: when and where does a culture begin and end, a community, a knowledge system, a history, a colonization; oppression and liberation from the same domination? How are boundaries excavated to separate one from the other – a subject, a culture, a collective? Expected completion for the dissertation is in 2014.

I received my BA and MA degrees in History from Karlstad University (2008) and I have been a Visiting Scholar in the Program in Literature at Duke University (2010), and at the Department of Social Communication at Universidad Autónoma de Bucaramanga (2011).

I am also co-founder and co-editor of the journal Confero: Essays on Education, Philosophy & Politics.
